What happened

Lieutenant-Colonel PrzemysÅ‚aw LipczyÅ„ski, spokesman for the Cyberspace Defence Forces, has announced that Poland is developing its first military quantum computer and that efforts to produce a prototype are currently at an advanced stage and are expected to be completed later this year. The project aims to enhance the encryption and data analysis capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces, enabling them to develop quantum algorithms that could revolutionise cryptography, cybersecurity, and advanced computing. Other benefits of quantum computing include optimising complex logistical challenges, creating secure communications, and developing advanced simulations. The project is led by the Warsaw University of Technology in cooperation with the Military University of Technology and the Military Institute of Armament Technology, and funded by the Polish National Centre for Research and Development. The development of this quantum computer will also be an important step towards Poland’s technological independence, with the hardware and control software being developed domestically to minimise dependence on foreign suppliers.
