What happened

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed a recent outbreak of mpox, which has been linked to an individual with a history of international travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). A thorough epidemiological investigation has identified four related cases among the close contacts of the primary infected patient, thereby emphasising the absence of such infections within the general population. The infected individuals are receiving appropriate medical care and are being closely monitored, according to health sources. Since the beginning of 2024, cases of mpox have been increasing in Africa, with over 1,300 presumed deaths related to the infection reported, prompting urgent measures to be implemented at the continental level.
