Doctors Without Borders (also known as Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) has expressed concerns regarding a potential outbreak of cholera in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, following days of confrontations between the army and the Rwandan-supported M23 armed group, which has gained control of the city. The NGO’s local director, Natalia Torrent, has stated that the water situation in the city is being closely monitored due to the lack of electricity, which has resulted in the water supply not being supplied by safety standards. This situation, as Torrent cautions, could potentially result in an outbreak of cholera.
