The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement with INTERPOL to establish a regional hub for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to provide additional support to member countries in the fight against international crime and terrorism. First proposed in 2016 at the INTERPOL MENA Chiefs of Police Meeting and then endorsed in 2019, the new hub will share information and work closely with local and regional organisations, including the Arab Council of Interior Ministers and the GCCPOL and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. The high-level agreement was signed at a ceremony attended by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior and Member of the Royal Family, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi and INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza. This agreement includes principles essential to ensure the proper functioning of the Regional Bureau. Further steps will be taken to cover the financial, administrative, security, and logistical aspects that will complete the opening of the Regional Bureau.
