What happened

In the wake of the report received from the Istituto Zooprofilattico Toscana-Lazio of Pisa, Italy, the ASL Toscana Nord Ovest has communicated to all relevant parties the positivity to Escherichia coli of the samples of clams collected from the natural bank extending between the port of Viareggio and the border with Forte dei Marmi. In response, a temporary downgrading from category A to category B has been mandated for the affected area, necessitating the delivery of clams to a designated purification centre prior to their distribution within the marketplace. It is imperative to note that this measure does not constitute a prohibition on clam consumption; rather, it underscores the necessity for heightened vigilance during both the procurement and consumption of this product. Adequate cooking is of paramount importance to ensure food safety. The Municipality of Pietrasanta has disseminated this information through a formal notification.
