A 64-year-old entrepreneur was discovered deceased at his residence in Colfosco di Susegana, in the province of Treviso, Italy, with the probable cause of death being malaria. The man had returned from Zambia five days prior to the discovery of his body, accompanied by his 60-year-old sister, who is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at the hospital in Conegliano. She has been diagnosed with malaria and her condition is currently deemed serious, with a reserved prognosis. The brother and sister had been residing in Africa. The local health authority has asserted that no public hygiene measures are necessary, given that malaria is not transmitted by direct contact between humans. The province of Treviso had previously experienced a fatal case of malaria in a 55-year-old man who contracted the disease after travelling to Congo. At the beginning of the year, a similar case occurred in Padua, where a man returning from a trip to Africa also died from malaria.
