According to media reports, the Italian Structure of the Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever (ASF) and the General Directorate of Animal Health of the Italian Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, have announced the eradication of ASF in Rome. This announcement was made in a press release from the Ministry of Health, which declared the revocation of the restricted zones established in May 2022 in the province of Rome. Notwithstanding this development, the Ministry has asserted its commitment to maintaining elevated levels of vigilance concerning animal health. Continuous surveillance constitutes a vital element in preventing future outbreaks of ASF. Although eradication of the virus in Rome has been achieved, re-emergence in other areas is a distinct possibility in the absence of adequate preventive measures. Collaboration between institutions, breeders, and citizens will prove to be a crucial element in ensuring the health safety, and sustainability of the sector.
