What happened

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that over 120 passengers from two shipping companies have exhibited symptoms of a gastrointestinal infection that has affected the crew of the cruises. The spokesperson of one of the affected companies stated that 86 passengers and eight crew members had shown symptoms. The vessel had departed from Port Everglades in Florida on 30 December. The other affected shipping company has disclosed that 15 passengers and 16 crew members reported being affected by the disease. These individuals boarded the vessel that departed from Miami on 23 December. The cruises of both ships are planned to conclude on 8 January 2025. It is noteworthy that other cruise companies have also been affected. According to media reports from the companies above, disinfection protocols have been intensified in collaboration with the US CDC to minimise disease transmission.
