Margaret Harris, spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO), said in the organization’s ‘X’ profile on the virus circulating in China that human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is not a new viral strain, but a common virus circulating in winter and spring. First identified in 2001, it has been present in the human population for a long time, usually causing respiratory symptoms similar to the common cold.
