What happened

Victims of terrorist attacks in Africa’s Sahel region have increased by more than 2,000% in the past 15 years. “The Sahel region of sub-Saharan Africa is now the epicenter of terrorism, with more deaths from terrorism in 2022 than in South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) combined”, reads the 2023 Global Terrorism Index published by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace.
