What happened

In a statement released on Saturday, January 4th, the Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) collaborated in a joint counter-terrorism operation with members of the Kurdish Internal Security Forces to capture four members of ISIS. According to the statement, two of them reportedly specialized in the manufacture of Katyusha rockets, which were used to strike security personnel during the liberation conflicts. The remaining two had previously participated in terrorist attacks against security and civilian targets. To guarantee that the accused receive justice in line with the law, they have reportedly been referred to the appropriate judicial authorities for legal action. Since 2024, Iraqi forces have significantly increased their efforts across the country to counter terrorism and to locate, capture, and destroy ISIS infrastructure, equipment, and personnel, especially numerous senior leaders.
