A fireworks explosion in a Honolulu neighbourhood on New Year’s Eve is believed to have killed at least three people and seriously injured more than 20, according to officials. The incident reportedly occurred just before midnight near a residential area, according to the Honolulu Fire Department, Hawaii. According to the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, initial reports indicate that two fatalities were discovered at the scene, while a further twenty victims were transported to a nearby medical facility with conditions that were deemed life-threatening. Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The fire brigade has stated that its task is to determine the cause of the explosion and that the dynamics of the incident are still unclear. The hypothesis of a house fire has been ruled out. In addition to the above-mentioned injuries, four other serious injuries sustained in the vicinity of fireworks, unrelated to the primary event, have been reported by the competent authorities. In a statement, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi attributed the incidents that had occurred on the island in the previous days to the danger posed by the use of illegal fireworks.
