The Italian State Police confiscated 3.5 quintals of barrels and fireworks intended for sale on New Year’s Eve. This seizure occurred during a raid in the Montello area, Treviso, Italy, at a shed owned by an Italian man aged 32. The operation was carried out by the administrative police of the Treviso Police Headquarters, with the ‘Nucleo Artificieri’ (Bomb Disposal Unit) from the Venice Headquarters assisting. The shed, located in the city centre, contained approximately 600 barrels and firecrackers that had been illegally retained, with a total weight over 360 kg, including 120 of gunpowder. According to official sources, the seized barrels possessed a significant potential for offensive action. Police officers also seized a quantity of homemade firecrackers that did not comply with safety regulations. These firecrackers were not kept safe and secure, and there was a significant risk of an accidental explosion. The State Police had intercepted the purchase of the pyrotechnic material by the man via an online sales circuit used for illegal transactions. The 32-year-old Italian, who had a specific criminal record, was charged with the offence of illegal possession of explosive materials.
