During an inspection at a large commercial establishment in the territory of Castel Maggiore, Bologna province, Italy, the soldiers of the Anti-Terrorism Ready Deployment Company of Bologna discovered and seized 100,000 pyrotechnic articles, totalling approximately 400 kilograms of pyrotechnic material and over 100 kilograms of active explosive mass. Of particular concern was the fact that the explosive material was being illegally detained, in violation of the regulations in force on the maximum quantity allowed for the specific business and on the custody methods. This was due to the fact that it was in close contact with flammable material, thus posing a serious risk to public safety. The legal representative of the company has been referred to the relevant judicial authority in connection with the offence of illegal possession and marketing of explosive products. This operation forms part of the ongoing efforts to address the issue of importing and selling fireworks in advance of the approaching end-of-year festivities.
