What happened

Burundi is confronted with the recurrent occurrence of cholera epidemics on an annual basis in specific geographical regions. The most recent outbreak was formally declared on the 1st of January 2023. As of the 22nd of November 2024, a cumulative total of 2,216 cases, accompanied by 12 fatalities (case fatality rate (CFR) 0.5%), have been documented since the commencement of the epidemic.
