The Mpox outbreak has continued to spread in Africa, with a new case detected in Angola. Although Angola, which borders the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), had not previously reported any cases, the first confirmed case was reported on 15 November 2024. The case involved a 28-year-old Congolese woman from Luanda who developed symptoms on 3 November. Laboratory tests confirmed Mpox on 15 November. Her husband, a truck driver who had travelled to the DRC, is thought to have been the source of infection. A total of 12 contacts have been identified and are being followed up. A second confirmed case, a 2-year-old female from the same family, was reported on 19 November. As of 20 November, 21 contacts have been identified, with nine suspected cases. The ongoing mpox outbreak in Angola appears to be connected to the outbreak in the neighbouring DRC. This highlights the need for enhanced control measures at points of entry to minimise the risk of further transmission.
