The cholera outbreak in Tanzania, which has been ongoing since early 2024, continues to be a major public health concern, with 2,299 new cases and 15 deaths reported in the last four weeks. As of December 2024, there have been 10,517 cases and 136 deaths, with an overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.3%. The disease has spread to 23 out of 26 regions, with Simiyu being the most affected, accounting for 33.3% of cases and 27.2% of deaths. Other highly affected regions include Mwanza, Songwe, Katavi, Lindi and Rukwa. Regions such as Geita, Pwani, Mtwara and Kagera report the highest CFRs. Cholera has been declared an outbreak in nine regions, with 51.3% of cases being female. The most affected age group is 15-44 years, accounting for 33.1% of cases.
