A war device dating back to World War II has been unearthed in the Po floodplain, between Brescello and Viadana, on the border between the Italian provinces of Reggio Emilia and Mantua. The discovery was made during routine maintenance work on the riverbanks, conducted by a specialist company. In response to the decision of the 2nd Engineer Regiment to order the immediate evacuation of the area in question for a minimum of six days, the prefect of Mantua convened an emergency meeting to assess the situation. The area subject to evacuation encompasses approximately 100 private residences, inhabited by a total of 350 individuals, in addition to two places of worship and several commercial enterprises. Additionally, several local companies’ manufacturing plants and headquarters are affected. A reception centre has been established at the local sports hall for those who have been displaced.
