The Italian State Police have apprehended a 38-year-old male of Iranian origin on suspicion of involvement in international terrorist activities. The operation was conducted at Milan-Malpensa Airport, where the suspect arrived on a scheduled flight from Istanbul. The arrest was the result of the joint efforts of the Milan DIGOS, the Border Police Office, and the US investigative authorities. During the personal search, law enforcement officials found electronic components that could potentially be employed in the fabrication of lethal weaponry, in addition to documentation of investigative interest and computer devices. According to the US authorities, the individual is charged with criminal conspiracy and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organisation, namely the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The suspect is accused of supplying electronic components used in the construction of the drones that killed three US military personnel and injured 40 at the ‘Tower 22’ outpost in Jordan on 28 January 2024. At the discretion of the Court of Appeal of Milan, the 38-year-old was transferred from police custody to Busto Arsizio (VA) prison, where he will await further proceedings.
