What happened

A total of 22 individuals succumbed to alcohol poisoning within seven days as a consequence of the ingestion of illicitly manufactured alcohol in Istanbul. The information was released by the Turkish broadcasting company Haberturk. At the same time, the country’s Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, revealed the apprehension of nine individuals believed to be involved in the production of counterfeit alcoholic beverages. In six distinct operations, law enforcement officials uncovered a warehouse that was utilized for the illicit production of alcohol. They also confiscated 28,400 liters of counterfeit alcoholic beverages and the associated production apparatus. The investigation revealed that the beverages at stake were available for purchase in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, and Mugla in southwestern Turkey.
