What happened

According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), November is the second deadliest month after August, with a series of terrorist attacks across the country that resulted in the deaths of 245 people and injuries to 257 others. According to their data, among the casualties were 127 militants, 68 members of the security forces, and 50 civilians. The injured included 119 civilians, 104 security forces, and 34 militants. With 71 attacks recorded in November compared to 68 in October, PICCS reported an increased militant activity. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was reported as the worst affected province, followed by Balochistan. A coordinated attack on a police station at Dera Ghazi Khan, south-west Punjab, was foiled, police said, while Karachi authorities arrested the man behind a suicide attack on Chinese nationals near Karachi airport. The report then highlights that since February 2017, when 148 militants were killed, November has seen the highest number of terrorist fatalities in a single month. Nevertheless, the security forces sustained considerable losses, with 68 casualties – the highest monthly death toll since January 2023, when 114 security personnel were killed. The year saw 856 terrorist attacks, compared to 645 for all 2023.
