On Sunday 1 December 2024, the scheduled removal of a World War II bomb (ERW) discovered in an area of the city of Verona will commence. Those residing in the designated ‘red zone’ will be required to temporarily evacuate their residences to facilitate the safe execution of the operation. To provide shelter for residents who lack alternative accommodation, the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Verona has established a reception centre at the local headquarters of its Operational Unit, as stated in a note issued by Civil Protection Councillor Stefania Zivelonghi. For the safety of passengers and staff, rail services will be suspended on the Brenner line and the Mantua-Modena line on Sunday morning. Rail operator RFI will provide alternative transport through special replacement buses. Furthermore, air traffic will be prohibited in the evacuation area concerned.
