Five cases of Legionella were identified in the Tassera district of Cesano Boscone, situated in the southern region of Milan, in residential properties owned by Azienda Lombarda Edilizia Residenziale (ALER). In collaboration with ALER, the Health Protection Agencies (ATS) conducted sampling to ascertain the source of the bacterium, which had recently been responsible for 53 cases of Legionellosis in the province of Milan. The majority of these cases (89%) occurred in the municipalities of Corsico and Buccinasco, with isolated cases also reported in the south of Milan. The rise in the number of cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the same geographical area underscores the necessity for water network operators to implement appropriate operational protocols, states regional councillor Simone Negri.
