What happened

A training exercise in anti-terrorism measures was conducted on the Frecciarossa high-speed train, which departed from Milan Central Station and proceeded to Anagni (province of Frosinone). The hijacking simulation was conducted by the NOCS, the special State Police corps that handles high-risk situations, with the cooperation of the Italian Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) personnel. The operation was managed by the FS’s National Operations Command and Control Room in Rome. It involved intercepting the terrorists while keeping the safety of the passengers (played by police officers) secure. Agents of foreign special corps participating in the international security network Atlas were also involved in the exercise. Participants in the simulation used helicopters HH139 and HH101, owned by the Air Force and capable of refuelling in flight. The exercise had no impact on the regular operation of the rail network.
