Security alert at London’s Gatwick Airport

Following the evacuation of the south terminal at London’s Gatwick Airport due to a ‘security incident’, the alert has been lifted. The intervention of the authorities was prompted by a report of a ‘suspicious prohibited object’ discovered in a piece of luggage. The police and bomb disposal squad were promptly dispatched to the scene. According to an official statement by Sussex Police, the alarm was initiated at 8:20 a.m. due to discovering suspicious items at Gatwick Airport. To guarantee the security of passengers, staff, and all other individuals on the premises, a security perimeter has been set up while the investigation is being conducted. By standard procedure, the local EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team has been requested to attend the scene as a precautionary measure.
