According to a statement released by Afghanistan’s minister Abdul Matin Qani, ten people were killed in a remote area of Nahrin district by an unidentified gunman. The victims were Sufis who gathered at the Sayed Pacha Agha shrine on Thursday evening. According to a Nahrin resident, their bodies were discovered the next morning by people who arrived for morning prayers. Terrorist attacks regularly target participants during rituals or gatherings in Afghanistan, despite the recent return to power of the Taliban, who pledged to bring security to the conflict-ravaged country. But attacks have persisted, with many attributed to the regional branch of the Islamic State (also known as IS or its Arabic acronym Daesh).
