A statement released by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) revealed that 27,000 pounds (equivalent to 13.5 tons) of lethal hydrogen sulfide gas was accidentally released at the Pemex refinery in Deer Park, Texas, on October 10th. This incident resulted in the deaths of two contracted personnel. It was reported by official sources that the two workers were undertaking maintenance work when they opened a flange, thereby releasing the hydrogen sulphide gas into the atmosphere. In addition, thirteen individuals sustained injuries during the incident, the estimated duration of which was approximately one hour. The CSB, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are the agencies responsible for investigating the incident, which posed a significant risk to the health and safety of residents in the surrounding area.
