The European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC) attended the recent Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Symposium, held during the 22nd Scientific Congress of the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology (APAMT 2024) in Penang, Malaysia. The Symposium gathered a distinguished group of experts from around the globe, convening to address critical concerns pertaining to chemical preparedness and emergency response. CEMEC participated in the discourse through a presentation, entitled ‘Chemistry and Disaster Resilience – Focus Chemical Emergency, Preparedness and Response’, in which it elucidated pragmatic solutions and collaborative models devised to reinforce our capacity to manage chemical emergencies in an efficacious and public health-protective manner. The event served to underscore the vital importance of international collaboration in the fields of disaster medicine and chemical emergency response, a mission that is perfectly reflected in CEMEC’s overarching objective of enhancing global health and safety through the sharing of knowledge and the development of capabilities.
