Cybercriminals do not even stop in front of an organization like ‘Associazione Volontari Italiani del Sangue’ (AVIS), the main body that runs blood donation in Italy. The AVIS Data Processing Center in San Francesco al Campo (Turin province) suffered a hacker attack causing the compromise of the reservation lists and making access to AvisNet inaccessible. This criminal act made blood collection operations difficult. AVIS requested the collaboration of all donors to contact the collection center to manually reconstruct the reservation lists. In light of such incidents, it is imperative to consider the necessity for contingency plans and emergency measures to ensure the continued availability of essential resources in the event of technological failure.
