What happened

Spanish authorities have intercepted 13 tons of chemicals, potential precursors to chemical weapons, headed to Russia. The seizure took place in the port of Barcelona, where four people were arrested for managing a commercial network aimed at evading the sanctions imposed on Russia due to the war in Ukraine. The investigation, launched in 2022, revealed that a company with Russian citizens was operating a triangulation scheme to illegally supply chemicals. The Spanish company had a branch in Moscow, but disguised shipments through front companies in countries such as Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, diverting goods overland to Russia.
