What happened

On September 27, 2024, the Rwandan Ministry of Health (MOH) issued a statement confirming the occurrence of Marburg virus disease (MVD) in a number of patients in healthcare facilities within the country. As this is the inaugural instance of MVD being reported in the country, samples are being dispatched to a regional reference laboratory for further confirmation. As of 10 October 2024, a total of 58 confirmed cases and 13 deaths (CFR 22.4 %) have been documented. A total of 30 cases are currently in isolation and receiving treatment, while 15 have recovered.
