A turkey farm in the Friuli lowlands has been hit by bird flu. Manlio Palei, director of the Prevention, Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health Service of Friuli Venezia Giulia, announced this. Safety measures were put in place and the farm was isolated. The turkeys were killed and disposed of to stop the disease spreading. In a statement released to the media, Health Councillor Riccardo Riccardi highlighted that the current situation is being closely observed by relevant authorities. Furthermore, he emphasised that all the safety protocols outlined in the recently implemented Prevention Plan, developed in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines on the containment of avian influenza, have been initiated. Type A influenza viruses can disseminate to other animals, including canines, swine, and equines. Additionally, a potential mutation of the influenza A virus could result in a heightened risk to human health. It is therefore imperative to implement rigorous preventative measures.
