WHO recommends vaccination against respiratory viruses

The World Health Organisation (WHO) regional office for Europe has issued a statement emphasising the potential dangers of the coronavirus, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for at-risk groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with existing or chronic medical conditions. Hans Kluge, the Regional Director for Europe at the World Health Organization (WHO), has stated that 53 countries in Europe and Central Asia are recording up to 72,000 deaths from seasonal influenza, which accounts for approximately 20% of the global burden. As indicated by data from WHO, the number of deaths attributed to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has exceeded seven million since the outbreak’s inception at the end of 2019. The majority of these fatalities have been reported in the United States, Brazil, India, and Russia. The WHO has issued a recommendation to prioritize the protection of at-risk groups through vaccination, which has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy for preventing disease and reducing the severity of potential outcomes.
