What happened

The Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SITI) has issued a call for all citizens to engage actively with the 2024-2025 influenza vaccination campaign, which commenced across the country in October. The National Vaccination Plan is designed to achieve an optimal vaccination coverage rate of 95% among identified risk groups, according to Roberta Siliquini, SITI President. The objective is to safeguard the population by mitigating the risk of influenza-related morbidity, mortality, and hospitalization, and limiting the transmission of the virus to those most vulnerable. In addition to reducing healthcare costs, compliance with the vaccination program is expected to enhance the country’s productivity by minimizing absenteeism from school and work. Local prevention departments run the campaign with the support of general and free-of-charge pediatricians and specialists from hospitals and other institutions.
