A detailed operation conducted by a synergic collaboration between the Cnaipic (National Anti-Cybercrime Center for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures) and the Postal Police Service and Operational Centers for Cyber Security (Cosc), directed by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office and coordinated by the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office, led to the arrest of a 24-year-old in the province of Caltanissetta for hacking against the Ministry of Justice and the violation of several critical national domains. The 24-year-old used several anonymous VPNs and multi-level encryption to overcome security measures. The techniques used included the violation of smart working networks, phishing campaigns, and violations of administrative credentials. Once he gained access to the systems of the public body, the offender stole confidential information. The motivation for these attacks was that the 24-year-old had previous proceedings for the management of illegal black markets and therefore wanted to verify his legal position. In addition to the systems of the Ministry of Justice, various telephone and telematics operators, satellite service providers, and the systems of the Guardia di Finanza were also affected.
