The French energy company EDF and the International Nuclear Energy Institute I2EN have signed cooperation agreements with Slovenian scientific institutions to promote the civilian use of nuclear energy. At the ceremony were present the French Ambassador to Slovenia, Florence Lévy, and the Slovenian Secretary of State Jure Gašparič. The agreements aim to develop research, training, and education in the nuclear sector, recognizing the importance of nuclear energy for reaching climate neutrality in Europe by 2050 and ensuring greater energy independence. A specific Memorandum of Understanding was signed between EDF and the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS), focusing on the research and development of nuclear power plants and small modular reactors (SMRs). This agreement also provides for the training and use of research facilities to create partnerships between laboratories. Finally, EDF recently proposed to the Slovenian GEN Energija to support the construction of two EPR1200 units and, alternatively, one EPR unit.
