In Italy, data released by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) indicate that 500 confirmed cases of dengue were recorded between 1 January and 24 September 2024. Of these cases, 64 were autochthonous, indicating that the individuals had contracted the virus within the national territory. There have been no reported deaths related to this disease. The ISS continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasising the importance of early diagnosis to identify infected individuals promptly. A timely diagnosis allows for the implementation of effective pest control strategies designed to disrupt the transmission chain of the virus, as stated by the director of the Infectious Diseases Department of the ISS. The national health authorities have stated that, despite the rise in native cases, the situation remains under control and does not warrant undue concern.
