On Monday 22nd July morning, Haitians spilled in the streets of Elías Piña Province, protesting against the measures taken by the State Ministry of Defence to ban numerous products imported from Haiti due to suspected anthrax outbreak in that country. This situation started because trucks coming from Haiti, loaded with products already paid in advance by Dominicans, couldn’t pass the border to enter Dominican Republic because of the import restrictions measures taken by the DR Ministry of Defence. The border access has been reopened while waiting more detailed information about which product can enter the country and which not. Merchants in Elías Piña Province temporarily closed their shops due to such measures.
