What happened

According to reports from local news outlets, the clean-up of contaminated lands with dioxin in the Cesano Maderno region (Province of Monza and Brianza) is expected to commence shortly. This timeline was initially outlined by Sabatino Fusco, General Manager of Pedemontana, who also stated that the cleanup process is anticipated to last approximately 180 days. In the forthcoming weeks, the workers will be engaged in the organisation of the site in preparation for the commencement of remediation work on the lots, the precise date of which has yet to be announced. Excavation will be preceded by analyses, comparisons with the Ats Brianza and ARPA (Regional Environmental Protection Agency), the transfer of the land to different sites and a verification that the land has been reclaimed. Meanwhile, training for 250 workers on large-scale remediation sites has started. The workers are acquiring the requisite knowledge and skills to enable them to work on these sites in a safe and responsible manner, and to ensure the protection of nearby residents. In accordance with the prescribed intervention protocols, the dismantling of the sites is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2025.
