What happened

The rapid spread of the Omicron Xec variant in Europe, the United States, and Asia has led American experts to predict that it could soon become dominant due to its high infectivity. The SARS-CoV-2 variant designated Xec is a hybrid of the KS.1.1 and KP.3.3 mutations, which are part of the Omicron lineage. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California in San Francisco, urges the population to be vaccinated by the end of October. He asserts the efficacy of vaccines, particularly for preventing severe forms of the disease in older individuals. The symptoms of the novel coronavirus infection caused by Xec are similar to those caused by previous variants, including fever, sore throat, headache, cough, and muscle pain. There is currently no evidence to suggest that the infection is more severe than that caused by previous variants.
