What happened

The first autochthonous case of dengue fever in 2024 was documented in the Italian region of Veneto. This follows the registration of disease outbreaks in other regions during the current season, namely Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Marche, and Tuscany. The patient is a 20-year-old male resident in the province of Vicenza. He is currently hospitalised but showing signs of improvement. Local health authorities have initiated a comprehensive epidemiological investigation, and a targeted monitoring program for the tiger mosquito has been implemented through a systematic survey within a 200-meter radius of the patient’s residence. Furthermore, a precautionary special disinfestation procedure has been initiated in the region affected by the infestation.
