Ransomware attack on the Department of Mathematics of the University of Genoa

The RansomHub cyber gang has targeted the University of Genoa, stealing approximately 18 gigabytes of data. The attack specifically targeted the mini-site of the Department of Mathematics. The cybercriminal group claimed responsibility directly in a post on the X platform, asking for a ransom to be paid by September 23, 2024, to keep the data private. After that, as is the practice of cyber-gangs, all the exfiltrated material will be published on the dark web. For the moment, neither the type of exfiltrated material nor the amount of the ransom has been disclosed, but given the amount of stolen gigabytes, the sum could be significant.
