What happened

According to the latest data released by the Italian Ministry of Health, as of September 5th, the number of new coronavirus cases reported within the country has reached 9,670, representing a 25% reduction compared to the 12,876 reported cases between August 29th to September 4th. Nevertheless, the number of fatalities has risen, with the total passing from 75 to 97, signifying a 30% surge in the mortality rate. The transmissibility index (Rt) has decreased to 0.75, down from 0.84 the previous week. Between September 5-11, the incidence rate was 16 cases per 100,000 people, showing a decrease from the prior week’s 22 cases per 100,000 people. The Veneto region recorded the highest incidence with 28 cases per 100,000 people, and the Marche region had the lowest with 0.8 cases per 100,000 people.
