What happened

A further 64 cases of West Nile virus were reported between 29 August and 4 September 2024. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 296 since surveillance began in May 2024. These data were published in the ISS Integrated Surveillance Bulletin for West Nile and Usutu viruses on 5 September. Among the confirmed cases, three new deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 11, distributed between Piedmont with three, Veneto with four, Friuli-Venezia Giulia with one, Emilia-Romagna with two, and Calabria with one.
