The company EDF has reduced electricity production at its nuclear sites in France due to rising temperatures. However, the energy supplier has communicated that there are no safety risks. High temperatures may disrupt nuclear processes as reactors depend on water and the heat generated from nuclear reactions. This heat converts water into steam, which then drives turbines to generate electricity. In detail, a reactor located in the Bugey nuclear power plant, located near Lyon, has been closed since 12 August. While, again in the Lyon area, the Saint-Alban nuclear power plant has undergone production cuts since 11 August and similar measures have also been adopted at the Tricastin site. It is located in the south-east of France, north of Avignon.
