Since the beginning of May 2024, when surveillance was initiated, 232 confirmed cases of human West Nile virus infection have been reported in Italy, resulting in eight deaths (one in Piedmont, four in Veneto, one in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and two in Emilia-Romagna). These figures are according to the latest bulletin published by the Italian Institute of Health. A total of 36 provinces have been identified as having a proven circulation of West Nile virus (WNv) in vectors, animals and humans, belonging to 11 regions.
