What happened

A graduation ceremony was presided over by the General Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in the Disaster Response Battalion in Embakasi. This event also included a transfer of equipment ceremony between the government of the United States of America and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The graduation ceremony marked the completion of a specialized training program designed to enhance the KDF’s capabilities in managing Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats, as well as casualty decontamination. The U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) conducted the training program as part of a broader engagement in security cooperation. The program’s participants were selected from the Disaster Response Battalion of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Mr. Alexis Robinson, the DTRA Attaché for South, Central, and East Africa, emphasised that the training aimed to enhance collaboration between Kenya and the United States. He stressed the need to establish a robust and enduring partnership to guarantee that Kenyan responders are adequately trained to address current and emerging CBRN threats.
