What happened

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) have inaugurated a new supercomputer focused on biological defense that will provide unique capabilities for large-scale simulation and AI-based modeling for a variety of defensive activities, including bio-surveillance, threat characterization, advanced materials development, and accelerated medical countermeasures. The new system is the result of the collaboration between the DoD and NNSA to increase the computing capability of national biodefense systems, and the DoD has funded it as part of its commitment to building enduring advantages and delivering cutting-edge defensive capabilities against advanced chemical and biological threats. The new system will also be accessible to the rest of the U.S. government, its allies and partners, academia, and industry.
