According to the latest Epidemiological Surveillance Bulletin from the Italian Institute of Health, there have been 807 reported measles cases since the start of the year, including 55 imported cases. Of these, 726 cases (90.0%) were confirmed in the laboratory, 24 were probable, and 57 were possible. Nationally, the incidence rate was 23.5 cases per million people. More than half of the cases (52.6%) occurred in individuals aged 15 to 39, and 23.9% were in those over 40. The highest incidence rate was in the 0-4 age group, with 90.4 cases per million. In children under one year old, there were 38 cases. Experts attribute the recent rise in measles incidence to several factors, primarily the suboptimal vaccination coverage for the first and second doses (below 95% in some areas) and the introduction of cases from regions with high levels of measles transmission.
