Pakistan will host a two-day meeting with the US to discuss cooperation in countering the ‘common threat of terrorism’ that both countries face. The meeting in Islamabad will aim to develop cooperative strategies in critical areas such as border security and combating the financing of terrorism, the US State Department said. The talks come amid a resurgence of terrorist attacks in Pakistan linked to the Taliban’s rise to power in neighbouring Afghanistan. The US and other countries urged the Afghan authorities to prevent terrorist groups from planning cross-border attacks, in line with Taliban assurances that they would fight transnational terrorists on Afghan soil.
